Lily is an 8 year old from Ukraine. She has a mother, a father, two sisters, and a stuffed rabbit who serves as her best friend.

One day life changed, and she and her family had to leave. We aren’t given details on why, but the illustration makes it seem like a storm is coming.

This book details her using imagination to move through difficulties and processing the fact that her family has to live in a new city, Barcelona.

They have a new home, there are language issues, and the feelings of longing for times past. If a child has had to go through an unwanted move, this book could be very supportive in validating the feelings and coping strategies. Also, the book briefly mentions calling a phone number for psychological support.

As the book progresses, Lily learns more Spanish and starts to understand her new world a bit better. Her stuffed animal plays a big role in supporting her. Children who have a favorite plushie might relate to this relationship.

Those who are fans of dragons will notice they are frequently mentioned in a fond way.

There is nothing blatantly objectionable in the content. One note is that at one point Lily asks her mother what is a “ladies man”, but her mother does not answer her question.

Overall this book tackles a difficult issue with grace and positivity. This could be a great support to those who resonate with its themes.
