Review

In this book Starfish is staying still no matter what happens to him. This is an important stoic principle – the ability to remain calm no matter what is going on.

I like that the book says that Starfish is still on the inside but is still feeling things on the outside; but that point is only specified once; and it could be overlooked that the point is inner peace; not complete numbness to reality.

There is a part at the back which explains more about how to use stoicism to help with big feelings; but this comes after the story has ended.

This is probably not the best choice for children who tend to take things literally, unless you are going to sit and explain what is inferred from this book. Otherwise you may find yourself in an emergency situation when the child needs to move but they think they should be like starfish and stay still. For many children this would not be a concern, but for some it would.

Yet, I appreciate the theme and motivation behind this book. It makes a nice choice for those who are going to take the time and explain more about the concepts.
